Sharp, a brand which years back introduced the first Bezel-less smartphone called the “SHARP Aquos Crystal” and it was the talk of the world back then because of its amazing zero bezel design and appereance. Since then we haven’t heard much from this brand until 2 days back when the brand brought another marvel, Sharp Aquos S2!
So, the smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch display with extremely thin bezels, The front camera is present in the middle of the display in a similar fashion to Andy Rubin’s Essential PH-1 and the leaked images of the upcoming Apple’s flagship iPhone 8. The earpiece sits above the display’s edge.
Below the Aquos S2 display you’ll find a big fat bezel housing a fingerprint sensor and home button, the device only has top and bottom bezels which are actually fat. Other noted specs include dual 12MP + 8MP cameras, a 3,020mAh battery, Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and a USB Type-C connector. The standard Aquos S2 model runs a Snapdragon 630, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, while the higher-end model gets a Snapdragon 660, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Not a flagship killer but the display is the selling point!
Well, we should thank to Sharp’s very own “Free Form Display” technology, the Sharp Aquos S2 has an amazing 87.5-percent screen-to-body ratio! It’s also a much smaller device reminding you, we’re talking about tucking a 5.5-inch display into the body of a conventional 4.9-inch smartphone. And don’t worry, you still get a 3,030 mAh battery which is enough.
Well, Compared to previous Sharp amazing range of devices, the S2 has ditched the old traditional conduction actuator in favor of a conventional earpiece that’s hidden underneath the screen, next to the front camera, with its audio channelled to a thin pipe placed along the top edge of the screen for clearer sound. While the front camera is no longer placed on the chin, there’s now a fingerprint reader sits quitely there — an interesting choice of design when both the Bezel-less Essential Phone and Xiaomi Mi Mix opted for a rear fingerprint reader instead. Smart you, Sharp!
The likes of Xiaomi Mix is touching the sky. Many Chinese brands are coming up with their clones of the Mix and it just doesn’t stops. It will be interesting to see SHARP gaining the market back with the Aquos S2. Just like what Sharp Aquos Crystal did.
As per the pricing goes, The cheaper S2 model costs around $370 (Rs. 23,750 approx), while the more powerful variant, which is coming later this year, will cost around $520 (Rs. 33,250 approx). It is available for pre-order from JD.com and will go on sale from August 14th in China. As of now, there’s no word on the global availability of the smartphone. We will keep you updated on any more future release of such kind of amazing smartphones. Stay Tuned, Cheers!
