Microsoft Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL Windows 10 Mobile smartphones launched in India


Microsoft has finally launched the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL in India. The smartphones running on the latest Windows 10 OS are priced at Rs 43,699, and Rs 49,399 respectively. The smartphones will go on sale on December 11 via Amazon India, as well as offline via retail stores like Croma and Reliance Digital. Microsoft is also offering a free Display dock (worth Rs 5,999) to the customers who pre-order any of the two smartphones.

The Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL were unveiled last month at Microsoft’s Windows 10 hardware event in New York. Both these device runs Windows 10 mobile version out-of-the-box. A leaked roadmap recently revealed that older smartphones will start getting the Windows 10 mobile update sometime in the second week of December.

The new operating system brings in a host of new features and improvements like a cleaner interface, an improved keyboard, and Microsoft Edge browser among others. Some of Windows 10′s highlights also include Universal apps, Cortana, Continuum, as well as the ability for developers to easily port their Android or iOS apps to the Windows mobile platform. The smartphones also feature Windows Hello, which lets users unlock the device by scanning their face, iris, or fingerprint.

As mentioned above, with prices starting from Rs 43,699, the new Lumia smartphones launched today are targeted at the high-end segment. While the Windows 10 mobile experience is one of the talking points, the new smartphones also boast top-of-the-line specifications and features, as well as an improved design. While most premium smartphones are opting for metal bodies, Microsoft has stuck to plastic bodies with removable back panels.


Microsoft Lumia 950 specifications and features: The smartphone flaunts a 5.2-inch WQHD (2560×1440 pixels) AMOLED ClearBlack display with 564ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood is a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM. Also on offer is 32GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 2TB using a microSD card. Microsoft is also offering additional OneDrive storage.

In the photography department, the smartphone comes with a 20-megapixel f/1.9 PureView rear snapper with triple-LED flash, optical image stabilization and 4K video recording capabilities. Up front there is a 5-megapixel wide angle f/2.4 selfie camera with 1080p video recording capabilities.

The Lumia 950 also features a 3,000mAh battery with built-in wireless charging support and fast charging support. Microsoft says that the battery is good enough to offer up to 18 hours of talktime, and up to 12 days on standby mode. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, and USB Type-C port.

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL specifications and features: As the name suggests, this is an ‘XL’ variant of the Lumia 950. Much of the specifications and features remain the same, albeit with a few changes. It flaunts a bigger 5.7-inch WQHD display with 518ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Under the hood is a 2GHz Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM.

The smartphone also has 32GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 20-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, and a bigger 3,340mAh battery that the company says is good enough to offer up to 19 hours of talktime and up to 12 days on standby mode. Connectivity options remain the same – dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, and USB Type-C port.
