Xiaomi today took the wraps off the new Redmi Note 3. As the name suggests, the Redmi Note 3 smartphone is the successor of the Redmi Note 2, which was launched about a couple of months back. The smartphone is going on sale in China, with prices starting from 899 Yuan or roughly Rs 9,300.

As Xiaomi has repeatedly teased in the run up to today’s unveiling, one of the talking points of the Redmi Note 3 is its full metal unibody design. Despite the metal body, the Redmi Note 3 is only 8.65mm thick and weighs 164 grams or four grams heavier than its predecessor. It is being made available in three colored variants – silver, dark grey and gold.

Furthermore, this is also the first smartphone in the company’s portfolio to boast a fingerprint scanner placed below the rear camera. Xiaomi says that the sensor is ultra-fast and can unlock the device in just 0.3 seconds.
